Job opening: Jersey Vindicator seeks county chronicler coordinators
The Jersey Vindicator is launching our new “County Chronicler” pilot program. The program will train community members to attend county government meetings, take notes, engage with residents, and flag issues for potential follow-up by reporters. Chronicler reporting from meetings will be published on The Jersey Vindicator website and will be shared with media partners across the state for republication.
We are seeking two coordinators to lead the new chroniclers program. Applicants should:
- Have experience managing programs and volunteers
- Be detail-oriented in managing programs and systems
- Be passionate about journalism and understand the importance of civic information in strengthening democracy
- Love working with people
- Have strong skills building relationships with community members and partner organizations
- Understand the power of collaboration
- Believe in the power of residents to help bring civic information to their communities and see them as important partners with media organizations
- Have good writing skills and experience with online publishing content management systems such as WordPress.
Location: Hybrid in New Jersey
Hours: 10-12 hours per week.
Pay: $30-35 per hour depending on experience
Krystal Knapp is the founder of The Jersey Vindicator and the hyperlocal news website Planet Princeton. Previously she was a reporter at The Trenton Times for a decade. Prior to becoming a journalist she worked for Centurion, a Princeton-based nonprofit that works to free the innocent from prison. A graduate of Smith College, she earned her master's of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and her master's certificate in entrepreneurial journalism from The Craig Newmark School of Journalism at CUNY.
