Every year, New Jersey legislators introduce thousands of bills — proposals that could reshape daily life for residents and businesses across the state. Most never make headlines, but residents still want to know about them.
The Jersey Vindicator built the NJ Bill Tracker in response to readers who wanted a simpler way to follow legislation that could affect their lives, in plain language, without digging through government websites.
Updated every hour, the Bill Tracker gives Garden State residents a real-time window into what’s being proposed in Trenton, and what it means.
What you’ll find here
The tracker lists the most recently introduced bills from both the Assembly and the Senate, with plain descriptions of what each one actually does. Not sure what a bill means in plain language? Hit the “Explain in plain language” button and we’ll translate the legislative language into something any New Jersey resident can understand. You can also search by keyword to find bills on issues that matter to you, whether that’s housing, healthcare, education, the environment, or any other topic.
Will it pass?
Our predictions page “Will This NJ Bill Become Law? ” uses a scoring model built on real legislative signals: whether a bill has a companion version in the other chamber, how many legislators have signed on as co-sponsors, the sponsor’s track record for getting bills signed into law, and whether that sponsor holds a leadership position like Senate President or Assembly Speaker. No algorithm is perfect, but ours is transparent, and every score comes with a full breakdown of exactly how it was calculated.
Know your lawmakers
The bill sponsor leaderboard ranks every current Assembly member and Senator by how many bills they’ve introduced and, crucially, how many have been signed into law. It’s one of the most direct measures of legislative effectiveness available to the public. Each bill card also includes a direct link to find your representative so you can contact them about legislation that affects you.
