Corrections policy

Accuracy is central to our mission.

Despite our best efforts, mistakes can happen. When they do, we correct them promptly and transparently.

Minor errors that do not affect the meaning of a story, such as spelling, grammar, formatting, or broken links, may be corrected without a formal editor’s note.

Substantive errors involving facts, names, quotations, dates, statistics, locations, context, or significant omissions receive a correction or clarification appended to the story explaining what changed.

We do not quietly rewrite stories to conceal mistakes.

We generally do not unpublish or remove accurate reporting. If significant revisions are necessary after publication, we preserve the public record by clearly noting what changed rather than replacing or removing information without explanation.

When significant new information changes the understanding of a story, we update it and clearly note the update.

We do not remove accurate reporting simply because someone disagrees with it or because circumstances later change.

Readers who believe we have identified an error are encouraged to contact us at editor AT jerseyvindicator.org. Every concern is reviewed carefully.

How to request a correction

Report an error

Email editor@jerseyvindicator.org with:

  • A link to the story.
  • A description of the error.
  • The correct information, if known.
  • Your contact information, in case an editor needs to follow up.

How we review corrections

Every request is reviewed by an editor, who compares it against our reporting, source material, and other available evidence. Editors determine whether the issue is a minor error, a substantive error requiring a correction, or a clarification consistent with the standards above.

What to expect

We will acknowledge that we received your request. If a correction or clarification is warranted, we will update the story and append a note explaining what changed. If we determine that no correction is necessary, we will explain why.

Response times

We aim to acknowledge correction requests within one business day. Straightforward corrections are typically published within two to three business days. Requests requiring additional reporting or review may take longer, and we will keep you informed of their status.
