Steve Janoski

Steve Janoski is an award-winning investigative journalist with nearly two decades of experience covering criminal justice, policing, courts, government, and politics in New Jersey and New York. At The Jersey Vindicator, he reports on New Jersey’s prisons and broader criminal justice system, using public records, deep sourcing, and on-the-ground reporting to hold public agencies and officials accountable.

His reporting has exposed government malfeasance, corruption, police misconduct, and nepotism. His investigation into cronyism in a Palisades Park school security program led to the program’s cancellation and the eventual resignation of the police chief.

Janoski’s work has appeared in the New York Post, USA Today, The Associated Press, The Record, and the Asbury Park Press. His honors include the Gannett Individual Excellence Award, Gannett’s OneJersey Impact Award, and multiple New Jersey Press Association awards. He was also one of 20 U.S. journalists selected for a National Press Foundation criminal justice reporting fellowship and served as a subject-matter expert for an Investigation Discovery documentary.
