Krystal Knapp
Krystal Knapp is the founder, executive director, and publisher of The Jersey Vindicator, a statewide nonprofit newsroom focused on investigative reporting, government accountability, and plain-English coverage of New Jersey policy. She also founded the independent local news website Planet Princeton in 2011.
She has more than two decades of experience reporting in New Jersey. She spent 10 years as a reporter at The Trenton Times, where she was the newsroom’s public records and computer-assisted reporting expert and covered education, government, and the federal courts.
Her work has been recognized by the New Jersey Press Association and the Center for Cooperative Media, which honored her nursing home investigation in 2023 and named Planet Princeton its investigative news site of the year in 2019. Knapp was also a Reynolds Journalism Institute fellow and a founding board member of Local Independent Online News Publishers.
Krystal earned a master's certificate in entrepreneurial journalism from the Craig Newmark Journalism School at CUNY, a master's of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a bachelor's degree from Smith College. You can reach her at Krystal AT jerseyvindicator.org.
